In case you thought I was punching above budget

As I'm so strict on spending within budget and I tend to buy mainly high street with a bit of second hand and designer thrown in; I thought I ought to point out I did look at high street pea coat options.

No navy, just black and grey and not great quality in case you were wondering.

  1. You can tell it doesn't look as expensive. If you are not restricted to Navy, I think I saw a black DKNY which I remember thinking was fairly resonably priced on NAP. x

  2. I wouldn't spend a cent on anything that can be described as "not great quality."

  3. Hi there-hope you can hold out for the NF or SBC one, quality counts and also cost per wear is a great incentive for holding out too!

  4. No way I have leart my lesson buying 'not great quaility' coats, it really is one piece you need to invest in. I got my McQueen wool military coat in NAP sale for around £300-400 and four years later it still looks brand new. If I had bought high street I would easily have spent £100 each year on a new one as they just dont last. I bought one from Oasis once which looked OK but within a week it had lost all the buttons and ripped up the back! I'm not saying you cant get good stuff on the high street but a winter coat is well worth going the extra mile for.

  5. it's true, you do get what you pay for but I think the Top Shop one looks great, do you want it for a season or forever??

  6. It seems that if budget is the biggest criterion (after navy) then the Chloe would be best because it is a much more classic cut and will be stylish for years (do you want it to last for years?)

Have you checked out this jacket by Barbour £199? Not in Navy but in black and purple

  9. You know, when you see things in photos you just can't guarantee it's going to translate in real life. Happily, you have a chance to look there before buying. And you are the best shopper!

  10. Excuse my rant that follows but seeing this coat brings me back to the reality of looking for a good winter coat that wont be coming from high street even though my budget can only really scrape the £250 mark.
Wool blend mix coats are all over the high street with a price tag that implies quality. Most of these coats barely see it past a winter without balding, piling & loosing shape.Thin and not very well insulated.I remember when the high street offered coats that were made to last with a tag of 100% wool.

It is infuriating to pick up a beautifuly cut coat only to feel the cheap thin overly felted wool.
